The clothes are the fabrics utilized to cover one’s body top to bottom. The clothes are not only meant to hide your skin but that adds to your appearance. Clothes are the impression of ones’ background and living standards. Costly and well carried clothes serve you a luxurious looks. Also, in the modern trends, fashion has replaced usability as the first priority for owning clothes. But one will be amazed to know that the kinds of clothes we put on is the result of lac of years of innovation and modifications as per the conditions and usability.
In the early ages, when men used to roam around naked, the need to protect body from climate like rain, heat and cold was realized. The first clothes were composed of leaves and shrubs and that too covered small portions. Later in the ice ages, the clothes were made up of the animal skins as that kept them warmer in the very cold and dry conditions. After few times, civilizations spread and the clothing style varied places to places. Different culture and social norms influenced the clothing depicting the standard and prosperity of the local region. Let us look at some of the prime roots of the modern clothing fashion and garments:
Greek- in the ancient times, people used to put on long plain clothes made up of fine material. The general color of the time was white and other sober colors. Men and women used to be covered with clothes called chiton. Also, army men had a different outfit as it were like small skirt with folds around the waist. Soldiers used to put on helmets and the upper cloths were made up hard fabrics. Soldiers’ fabrics were dark shaded. And women used to put hair bands on the head and sometimes scarf. The dress codes for the royal people were different and superior to common people of the time.
Egyptian- In the ancient Egypt, gold was the prime part of the clothing accessories. Egyptian people used to put on clothes that covered top to bottom. The royal people especially women used to put on golden color skirts. The top were generally with no sleeves. And the head had the special crown implicating their superiority. Egyptian people clothes were made up of good raw material that assisted them in warm conditions.
Indian- In India, the clothing pattern varied with the influence of alien cultures. Early times, men used to put on Dhoti and women- Sari. After coming of Islamic reign, the length women’s sari elongated and covered the whole body. However the trousers and shirts came after European influence in the subcontinent. |
